Sub #169: Silversun Pickups

Week of October 16, 2006

SubterraneanIn this episode, Jim Shearer interviewed Silversun Pickups. The album Carnavas was released in July.

Here's the playlist for episode #169:

Gnarls Barkley - Gone Daddy Gone
The Rapture - Get Myself Into It
Cat Power - Lived In Bars
The Stills - Destroyer
Wolf Parade - I'll Believe In Anything
M. Ward - Chinese Translation
Silversun Pickups - Well Thought Out Twinkles
Dirty Pretty Things - Bang Bang You're Dead
CSS - Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above

Well, that "Gone Daddy Gone" video sure is different. I saw it online a couple of weeks ago, but seeing it high quality on TV was pretty cool. Such a unique concept. Also, if you know altmusictv, you know I'm glad Cat Power is back with a new single and back out on tour. As always, all the best to her. Got anything to say about Silversun Pickups or something else? Talk about this week's episode or post feedback about the show in the comments section. Also, Google added us back to their search results, so, hallelujah.

Gnarls Barkley who are these dudes?
what type of music do they play? Are they in with W.A.R. weapons?
W.W. are coming out with a new cd soon.

The Rapture Oh, Yea I almost forgot about them. These dudes ROCK!

Cat Power I love the song. It is sad and at the same time kind. And a little disturbing as well. The video reminded me of the move Rumble Fish I like myself to the motorcycle boy, a little.

The Stills Wow this band is unreal, they are all that’s good about this type of music. This song is confusing though. Who are they going to destroy? You? Me? I must know.

Wolf Parade I just got their most recent CD. Absolutely the best! Like Star sailor.

M. Ward The video rocks almost as much as the band. I would love to hear this cd.

Silversun Pickups Coolest as always I like the drawing I do drawings too.
Radman_Art some of my new drawing this stuff is serious! : http://hey_dtx.tripod.com/id62.html

Dirty Pretty Things: Bully rock, Just kidding :) That has got to be the best guitar I have heard in years. If they would lean toward the sound of the Caesars they would have a must have sound. Maybe the CD has got the techno edge. I would like to here it someday.

Gone Daddy Gone is definitely a cool video, quite different. Makes me wonder what Gnarls Barkely will come up with next because Crazy's video was really unique too!

I wonder if something was specifically done to be back on google searches or if it was just goggle messing around. Good to know though.

My girlfriend and I watched Silversun Pickups at the Illini Union at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, on October 7.

I asked Brian, from the band, as to how MTV chose to feature their band on Subterranean. He didn't know. (Does Jim Shearer choose the guests?)

It was one of the better shows for me. The bass vibrated the entire room. The vocals caused the speakers to crackle. That's rock. Consider us fans now. I hope Silversun Pickups releases another single, with a video.

I have a certificate from my college in animation and have taken 5 classes in 3D animation. I got a's in all of them. For this reason I think the Gnarls Barkley video is awesome! I actually got to listen=ten to the CD and it is totally different than anything I have heard, A little like ICP on the scarey songs.

I just want to say right on to all the posters on this page. :)

Oh! Oh! Oh no! The New Stills I just got it! Amazing!!!! Really Amazing! I know the stills I love the double CD! I guess it was their fist full CD. Things must be cool in Montreal. Maybe I will move there. My wife is French Canadian. The Stills - Without Feathers is the best CD of 2006!
I got it for $3.99 at CD Warehouse in Plano, Texas, it was a Demo. I traded in Mobius Band - City vs. Country for $1.00, Gerling -Bad Blood for $1.00, A.R.E. Weapons - A.R.E. Weapons for $.50.
