Sub #170: Sean Lennon
In this episode, Jim Shearer interviewed Sean Lennon. His new album Friendly Fire was released earlier this month.
Here's the playlist for episode #170:
Lady Sovereign - Love Me Or Hate Me Kooks - Eddie's Gun Mates Of State - Like U Crazy Tapes 'n Tapes - Cowbell Kasabian - Empire Mew - Special Forward, Russia - Nine Sean Lennon - Dead Meat Jose Gonzales - Crosses The New Pornographers - Sing Me Spanish Techno Broken Social Scene - Fire Eyed Boy
Lots of videos on the show this week. Lady Sov is... different. I dunno. It's a silly video and song, no doubt. Not credible, but catchy. Funny how Jim mentioned it's in the top 5 on TRL. Got comments? Reply to the post, select "Other" for your identity, type in your name, and you're good to go.
MTV.com has the whole episode and bonus videos, as usual. I don't even know if it's called MTV Overdrive anymore... looks like Overdrive took over the entire site. Anyway here's the link: http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?name=features&id=1543413Labels: Subterranean playlists

Lady Sovereign is one of the worst things I've heard all year, and its disgusting that they are trying to pass off this "artist" as "alternative".
Nothing but a marketing ploy to sell her to all the kids who like Eminem. The song is an exact copy of his earlier stuff
Yeah Lady Sovereign is pretty terrible. And if it has cracked the top five on Total Request Live why are they playing it on Subterranean? And by the way you actually spell Forward, Russia like this, ¡Forward, Russia!
I agree, Lady Sovereign is interesting but not in an a way that stands out. Mistakingly, at first, I actually did get reminded of M.I.A. (instead of Jim's comparison to Eminem) but as I actually saw more of the video and listened to the lyrics, I realized she isn't really all that great but definitely catchy. Also, if you look at the lyrics of some other songs that she has done, they seem just as silly, if not more, so I do agree that she's not credible but probably catchy with everything she does. I know Random was pretty much the same too, except less catchy.
Wow, Mates of State have a new single. The video for this was pretty interesting but not sure why they had to spell the title like that.
Sovereign has really been nothing more than a guilty pleasure for me. Something about her draws me to her, not like she is a "great" artist or anything.
Sean Lennon seemed pretty cool. His music seems nice. It seems like he makes the music he wants to, rather than living up to his father's legend, which would be rather difficult.
I can't believe I missed this show. I set the VCR but forgot to turn it off!
Mates Of State - Like U Crazy Rules! I got Mates Of State - The Lost Riots two weeks ago and was moved.
Music today in no way resembles music from the 60's and 70's. I hate when people compare music from today to The Beach Boys and stuff like that. I just had to say that.
