Sub #179: The Thermals
In this episode of Subterranean on MTV2, Jim Shearer premiered the "basement tour 2007," in which the show will travel to a different real basement for each episode. What happened to the studio? Who knows. This week's interview was with The Thermals, who released their album The Body, The Blood, The Machine in August.
Here's the playlist for episode #179:
The Shins - Phantom Limb Lily Allen - Smile And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Naked Sun Islands - Don't Call Me Whitney, Bobby Kos - Electrick Heat The Seekwill M. Ward - Chinese Translation The Thermals - A Pillar Of Salt Band Of Horses - Great Salt Lake Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye Mates Of State - Like U Crazy
The interview was pretty good, especially the short discussion about religion that came up because The Thermals address it in some of their work. Jim Shearer got it exactly right when he said too many people have been falsely considering "Christian" and "Republican" to be synonymous. It's time to stop the administration and their allies from trying to own the religion. Just as Hutch from The Thermals said, the original teachings of Christianity were about love, and today, it's once again being used for evil. Anyway, I'll step off the soapbox here... good video selection. It was great to see "Smile" played again. Check out Lily Allen on my top 5 albums of 2006 in the previous post.
