Sub #181: (no guest)
Week of January 22, 2007
This episode of Subterranean on MTV2 was sort of a ghost episode. I noticed Jim Shearer provided voiceovers, but there was no guest and no studio. What happened to the studio??Here's the playlist for episode #181:
The Decemberists - O Valencia!
The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health
Tokyo Police Club - Nature Of The Experiment
Irving - Jen, Nothing Matters To Me
Jose Gonzales - Crosses
Matt and Kim - Yea Yeah
Dirty Pretty Things - Bang Bang You Are Dead
Baby Dayliner - Silent Places
Islands - Don't Call Me Whitney, Bobby
The Shins - Phantom Limb
Asobi Seksu - Thursday

Lots of videos at least. The one by Matt and Kim was one of the weirdest I've seen in a while, I like it. Any thoughts from you all?
On a side note, remember the 120 Minutes archive of playlists still exists... if anyone out there has playlists from old 120 Minutes shows on MTV or MTV2, we're still archiving them, so send them in.

It is weird when there are voiceovers throughout the show. No clue at all what is going on.
The Knife's "We Share Our Mother's Health" was crazy.
At first, I just wanted to color Matt and Kim's "Yea Yeah" in. After the food attacks, it just seemed like silly fun. Simple is nice.
Island's "Don't Call Me Whitney, Bobby" video reminded me of Of Montreal's "Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games."
I liked the new format more time for videos.
I have always liked the Shins. I would like to buy this one.
Baby Dayliner reminds me of the Smiths.
Irving has nice synthesizers could be like New Order. Nice mylar balloons.
I liked Tokyo Police Club, very artistic.
Yea! A new The Decemberists CD! Kind of neat video. Like a complete story.
Jose Gonzales my wife said the people in the car where to resemble people that died in a car crash? I do not know. But this dude is great!
MTV must have locked-out Jim, since there was no guest scheduled.
Maybe Jim is an undisclosed location, safe from TV and the web.
I'm startled whenever a video returns from exile. While I like to catch-up on good music videos with old friends, some videos are better left for dead.
Subterranean should visit me and my basement! I would provide a selection of good beer and tell some stories that go nowhere--anything for television!
I must have missed The Knife video when it showed last year, but that one really messes with your head. At first I found the song kind of annoying, but now it's really grown on me. A lot.
i'm with you, ratan, it was annoying at first to me... now, not so much. as for your idea, chris, sounds good to me, are you listening MTV?
"We're not worthy! We're not worthy!" So Wayne and Garth would repeat...but I am worthy...and oh, yes...it shall be mine.
As I promised, for the show: a basement, some beer (off screen), and anything else to satisfy.
No destruction of any kind. This is not Headbangers Ball. We're subtler.

if only MTV would actually listen... it's a fantastic idea: Subterranean traveling to the basements of its biggest fans
