On TV: February 12–18, 2007

week of February 12, 2007

TV ScheduleThis is the first installment of a new series on altmusictv, in which I'll give you an overview of the upcoming week's alternative music on TV.

I'm planning to focus on live performances and appearances by some alternative bands and artists, but I'll also include some other stuff that interests me, whether or not it's "alternative."

Looking for stuff from Sunday? Scroll down the page for 49th annual Grammy Awards wrap-up or Subterranean with Matt and Kim.

Anyway, here's everything I'm aware of this week. Let's start with Monday, February 12th. Today, you'll be able to catch Nelly Furtado on Ellen Degeneres, The Fray on The Tonight Show, and a repeat of Matisyahu on Jimmy Kimmel from last month. Also airing today on VH1 at 3:00 PM ET is an episode of Storytellers with the ladies who swept the Grammy Awards last night, Dixie Chicks.

Next up, on Tuesday, February 13th, Lily Allen will be performing on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and Regina Spektor will be on Last Call with Carson Daly. Also, Bad Religion will be stopping by Steven's Untitled Rock Show on FUSE at 7:00 PM ET.

Wednesday, February 14th is another packed day, with Norah Jones on Letterman, KT Tunstall on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and Apples In Stereo performing on Conan.

The rest of the week is kind of a stretch... on Thursday, February 15th, mainstream rock acts Fall Out Boy and Incubus will show up on Last Call and Jimmy Kimmel, respectively. The only performance remotely of interest to me on Friday, February 16th is Katharine McPhee on Ellen. Like I said, quite the stretch to mention here on altmusictv, but after all, this is the pilot edition.

It's encore season on PBS' Austin City Limits, so there's no new episode this week. However, you'll be able to catch a replay of Robert Randolph & The Family Band this Saturday on your PBS station.

MTV2 has decided to skip out on Subterranean for next Sunday, February 18th. My guess is they're putting on other programming due to the holiday on the following Monday.

That's everything I know. If you know of another appearance or performance on TV by a band that might be of interest to anyone who stops by this site, add a comment and tell everyone about it. Happy TV viewing to all this week.

Good idea! I sometimes forget to look upcoming performances, especially stuff on Fuse. Thanks for posting this.

Include "Austin City Limits" in previews too. It airs on Saturday night on PBS. It's one of the better live-music shows, when artists play more than the single. The episode with The Shins is one of my favorite.

You're right about Austin City Limits. I love that show. The recent one with The Raconteurs and Cat Power was incredible. I'll look up the listings for that and add it to the entry.

Nothing to do with the topic at hand... Gawker is reporting the entire VH1 Classic department and all staff producers at MTV2 have been axed.

Thanks for posting that. I've added it as a new entry.

Incubus is no longer listed as a guest of Jimmy Kimmel. On Friday, there will be The Colour on Kimmel.
The Thermals have a performance on Friday's Last Call with Carson.
