MTV2 and VH1 employees fired
Everyone in the VH1 Classic department and all the staff producers at MTV2 have been fired, Gawker reported today. MTV Networks has not confirmed or denied this move as of yet. No further information is available at this time.
An anonymous commenter tipped me off to this story. I doubt there will be sweeping changes at MTV2, because non-music shows have already taken over the channel, but that's not the case with VH1 Classic. The channel is the home of great shows like The Alternative, a throwback to the old days of 120 Minutes. Assuming this is true, what will become of VH1 Classic?
A commenter on Gawker's post said, "MTV Networks cleans house like this on a regular basis. There are rounds of 'staff' firings every few years. Don't whip out the kleenex just yet though. In the past, fired staffers were just hired back immediately as freelance employees."

Did they fire Jim S?
David Bittler, a spokesperson for MTV Networks, said: "From the consumer's point of view, there will be no changes to the programming on those networks."
So, I can only assume that means all of the on-air talent will remain on the job.
I'm so upset. i live in upstate new york where we have time warner cable as our main supplier. And now they completly took off mtv2 and replaced it with the home shopping network.
I really hope they did fire jim, although I have noticed that over the last 2 years we have been seeing less and less of him (via rock countdowns and lately the lack of him on sub.)
I'm really upset, because after i finish school, I eventually wanted to work at MTV2. I'm starting to lose my faith in music...
That's terrible, Amy. You can still watch the show online though. You should also know that Jim wasn't fired, as far as we know. See the new post for all the info.
